Story
A high-powered CEO puts his career and family at risk when he begins a passionate affair with his much younger intern. Jean Reno filmed scenes for the film, but they were completely cut from the finished film.
The story centers on a selfish, power-hungry, narcissistic CEO who cheats on her husband, plain and simple
The film attempts to tell the story from the woman’s perspective, prioritizing emotions over logic, romanticizing the situation, and even trying to justify her actions. It first leans heavily on the “strong, independent woman” trope, portraying her as a victim of oppressive men who want to see her fail as a CEO, but then that message is subverted, suggesting that (some) women actually prefer to be subjugated by their male counterparts.
Your mind tells you A, but your feelings tell you B
This inconsistency not only confuses the narrative, but also undermines the message it’s intended to convey. The film also displays a great deal of CEO hypocrisy, likely in an effort to shed light on the complexities of the female psyche.
If that was the intention, it somehow succeeds
However, the film is still overly romanticized, unrealistic, slow, and boring, making it difficult to hold attention. Ultimately, the film seems to appeal more to a female audience, which is likely a reflection of its target demographic.
